Philips 42PF9630A Review
Philips 42PF9630A 42 inch plasma is supposed to be a good plasma unveiled by the company. It was equipped with 2:3 pull down detection, 2 HDMI input and Ambilight - for better viewing pleasure.
Unfortunately, this set doesn’t impress us even with the above features. The fact is, the black level is not satisfying enough. The menu was annoyingly, very tricky to navigate and the price is steeper than most competitor’s.
The most worrisome thing we have about the Philips 42PF9630A is on the number of negative comments it gets from buyers from Amazon, ePinions and Cnet. Most buyers complained that the set only lasts a few months before it’s sudden death.
If you’re looking for a plasma, skip this set unless you have ample supply of headache pills at home.
Pioneer PDP-5070HD 50″ Plasma TV Review
If you can afford to pay an extra $1000 for a better quality tv, check the highly rated PDP-5070HD.
Not exactly cheap, the PDP-5070HD from Pioneer is considered the best tv in it’s class by CNET and has been receiving glowing reviews from other home theater magazines.
The picture quality from DVD, standard or HD transmission is considered above average. The viewing angle of this 50 inch black plasma is wide and there hardly any distortion or noise regardless of the viewer’s position.
This set has generous input that includes 2 HDMI and accepts 1080p/24 signals from Blu-ray or HD DVD. It comes with a USB to make it easy to view photos and supports the standard PiP feature you’d expect from a tv this expensive.
Pioneer PDP-5070HD Features:
* 1080p support
* 2 HDMI input
* USB input
* Advanced PiP function
* 1365 x 768 resolution
Philips 42PF9631D Review
Philips 42PF9631D has been released by the Dutch company somewhere in June and has since been making it’s way to many homes throughout America. So, what’s so special with this unit?
Firstly, this Philips 42PF9631D has a special Ambilight feature designed to improve picture quality and ease eyestrain. Secondly, it’ also user friendly enough up to the stage that it allows you to download new firmware versions into a memory stick from the Philips website, and then feeds it into the TV through an easily accessible USB port.
It’s picture quality is good, even without the Ambilight feature turned on and the design is more sophisticated than most tv maker’s. With lighted remote and easily accessible input-outputs, the Philips 42PF9631D stands out from the rest of 42 inch HDTVs we’ve seen.
It comes with a HDTV tuner and 2 HDMI input, much to our relief as a lot of tv makers still believe than one HDMI input is enough for all of us.
Philips 42PF9631D Features:
* Pixel Plus 2 HD and Ambilight 2 for better viewing
* With PIP
* 2 HDMI, USB connections
* Lighted remote control
