Sharp Aquos LC-32GP3U-R

March 18th, 2008

image
image
The Sharp Aquos LC-32GP3U-R is an HDTV rarity in that its 32-inch screen provides full 1080p resolution—twice the number of pixels of other same-size LCD HDTVs. This set also incorporates performance and features that console gamers will appreciate, and the whole thing is wrapped up in an attractive frame that’s available in some cool colors. Of course, at $1,499.99 direct, the LC-32GP3U-R isn’t the least-expensive 32-inch HDTV going, but it’s unique in that it delivers superb high-definition detail.

Sharp tapped renowned product designer Toshiyuki Kita to design the TV’s exterior, and the result is a seriously stylish set. The “-R” at the end of the model name stands for its deep red bezel, which makes it a little cooler than your average TV, though it’s also available in black or white. A removable four-legged table stand provides 40 degrees of swivel motion (20 degrees left and right), and a finely perforated tube-shaped strip along the TV’s bottom edge conceals its integrated stereo speakers (2 x 10W). On-display controls are within easy reach and sit atop the right edge of the set. Along the right-hand side is an array of standard and high-definition video inputs. With its stand attached, the set measures 23.9 by 30.9 by 11.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 39.7 pounds. Removing the stand shrinks the TV’s height and depth to 21.0 and 3.6 inches respectively, and the weight drops to 33.1 pounds.

Samsung showcases 31 inch OLED TV

March 10th, 2008

OLED TV’s are the future and Laser TV’s are the distant future. Samsung showcased its 31 inch OLED prototype at Cebit 2008. OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) offer a number of advantages over LCD TV’s like a higher contrast ratio, provide better viewing angles, consume less power and are really slim. Unfortunately OLED TV’s are very expensive to manufacture for now as the 11 inch Sony XEL-1 sells for $2500 which is around $222 per inch. Samsung did not release any specifications or release dates but there are rumors that the OLED TV might hit markets next year with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, 0.1 ms response time with a life of 35,000 hours.

Panasonic goes wild, reveals loads of TVs in Japan

January 22nd, 2008

Every so often, we see a firm go out of its way to let loose not just one or two new products, but enough fresh kit to totally overwhelm anyone trying to digest it all. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on perspective) for us all, Panasonic has done just that with a smattering of televisions. Up first is the 17-inch TH-17LX8 LCD TV, which will be available in five different hues and offer up a 1,366 x 768 resolution, HDMI input, VIERA Link and built-in SD slot. Next in line, we’ve got a trio of new LCD TVs in the LX series ranging from 20- to 32-inches in size, all featuring a 1,366 x 768 resolution and an analog / digital tuner to boot. Lastly, we’ve got three new plasmas (37-, 42- and 50-inches) with lackluster resolutions, a 15,000:1 contrast ratio and a bevy of inputs (including an SD slot and Ethernet port). The whole lot is slated to land in mid-February, so be sure and tag the links below if any of these just happened to tickle your fancy.
