TVsReview has evaluated 12 HDTV models in the 40 to 45 inch category for 2008. These products offer superior picture quality and great value to consumers. Read on and learn what owners and editors think about this year's mid-size TV models in our HDTV shootout.

For the budget conscious TV shopper, there are a lot of great values in the 40 to 45 inch HDTV category for 2008. And for many media rooms, a 40, 42 or 45 inch TV is the perfect size for optimal viewing.

These mid-size HTDVs offer all the features of 46 inch or larger screens and generally less visible motion blur or other image flaws than the larger size models. Prices will run from as low as $1,000 to as much as $4,000 for a fully loaded top-of-the-line Plasma model in the 40 to 45 inch category.

You’ll find great prices and lots of choices this holiday season or wait until January and you may find an even better deal on these HDTV models! Read on and learn which models offer the best picture quality, features and overall value in our 40 inch to 45 inch HDTV Shootout.

Plasma or LCD?

First thing is to decide whether you need the better image quality of Plasma or not. With the manufacturers all offering improved LCD technology this year, a mid-size LCD HDTV may be the way to go for best value and service life.

On the other hand, with production of 40 to 45 inch plasma models in full swing now, you can also find great values in the Plasma category. Truly in this category you can’t go wrong with either Plasma or LCD. Go to a retailer and ask to view the types of movies and TV shows you like to watch on each model you’re considering.

Try to sit the same distance from the screen as you will at home when viewing demo TVs in the showrooms. If you can’t see a huge difference between your favorite LCD and Plasma models then you might not want to spend the extra money on Plasma.

Why a 40 to 45 Inch Screen?

The most obvious answer is price; you’ll get more TV for your money in the mid-size range, but there are other reasons to consider going with a 40 to 45 inch television. For one thing, if you aren’t a true couch potato then the extra cost of a larger TV might not make sense.

Also, if you already have a media room with a 50 inch or larger HDTV and need something for your second home, bedroom, game room, etc. then a mid-size TV is a good choice.

Lastly, if the viewing distance will be less than about 10 feet, a bigger TV might not even make sense. For more information, please refer to our article on Getting The Right TV Screen Size for your room.

What Features Do I Need in a 40 to 45 Inch TV?

Features abound in the mid-size HDTV category. HDMI, USB and other ports and connectors are standard faire. Look at the location of connectors and formats you commonly use. If you have a Sony digital camera, a Sony HDTV with memory stick reader is handy. Built in memory card and SD readers are common on many models as well.

Consider your home theater needs as well; if you don’t need full surround sound you should listen to the models you’re considering closely; the base and range of speakers and onboard digital surround sound varies greatly between the models we have reviewed.

If you have or are planning to install a complete home theater system you may not need anything more than basic speakers built into your TV.

Which Plasma 40 to 45 Inch LCD Should I Get?

Panasonic and Sony both offer great Plasma screen TVs in 40 to 45 inch screen sizes. Hitachi, LG, Samsung and Pioneer also offer great models.

Perhaps in no other HDTV category can you find great prices on Plasma technology in 2008. Read our full reviews on Plasma screen HDTVs between 40 and 45 inches for ratings and detailed product reviews:

Editor’s Choice: Panasonic TH-46PZ85U

Editor’s Choice: Samsung PS42C96HD Plasma TV

Hitachi 42PD5200 Plasma TV

LG 42PC1RR Plasma TV

Panasonic TH42PX60 Plasma TV

Pioneer PDP4270XA Plasma TV

Which LCD 40 to 45 Inch LCD Should I Get?

Sony and Samsung both offer great values in the 40 inch LCD HDTV category. LG, Toshiba and HP also offer models. In fact, all the major TV brands offer choices in the mid-size screen sizes reviewed here.

Read our full reviews on the following models for more detailed product information and owner ratings:

Editor’s Choice: Sony KDL40W3000 40 Inch LCD TV

Editor’s Choice: Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Samsung LN-T4061F 40-inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

LG 42LB5D LCD TV 42-inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV

Toshiba REGZA 40″ Super Narrow Bezel 1080p LCD HDTV

HP LC4276N 42-inch High-Definition 1080p LCD TV

Conclusion

If you are looking for great value in an HDTV that feels “large screen” without spending a fortune the 40 to 45 inch size is hard to beat; you get the screen size that actually best fits most TV viewing spaces optimally. People who buy a 46 inch or larger screen that sits less than ten or twelve feet from their couch or favorite arm chair may be disappointed vs. those who opt for a mid-size model.

With so many great models available in the category, finding an HDTV with 40, 42 or 45 inch screen size is easy enough, whether you want the color and motion image quality of Plasma or find the newer technology in LCD models suitable to your viewing needs.

See why we think that 46 inch and 50 inch HDTV is the best category for Consumers in 2008. Read our reviews and ratings on the top LCD and Plasma 46 to 50 Inch Flat Screen TVs.

I’m sure those of you reading this in 2010 or 2011 will have a good laugh, but in the world of 2008 HDTVs, the 46 inch category has become super popular, with prices nearing what they were 2 or 3 years ago for 42 inch models.

And with the latest innovations in LCD Television technology, picture quality continues to improve even as prices continually drop, giving consumers in 2008 great value for their new TV-buying experience.

Plasma or LCD?

This remains a debate that is almost as popular as asking “If you leave a TV on in the middle of a forest with a SlingBox connected, will anybody bother to watch it?” To some, the matter of Plasma’s superior color and motion picture quality make it the purist’s only choice.

Only you can decide what’s best for your budget and viewing needs, but with the latest technological advancements, LCD continues to close the gap while offering longer service life and lower prices than Plasma.

Why a 46 to 50 Inch Screen?

Another question is what size screen to go with, and most people find a 46-inch or 50-inch HDTV is optimal in the standard-size living or family room, dedicated media room or other primary television-viewing area in the home. This is your family TV; the one you watch NFL games, the X Games and all your favorite movies on, so you want a generous screen size.

While you could opt for a 50, 55 or 61 inch TV, you’ll find great value in the 46 inch category this holiday season. The time has never been better (don’t laugh too hard you people reading in 2108!) to buy a 46 inch HDTV. With full 1080p, contrast ratios in the 20,000:1 or better range and features galore, smart shoppers can find a great deal on either a Plasma or LCD 46” television at a variety of price points this year.

Which Plasma 46 Inch or 50 Inch LCD Should I Get?

Panasonic TH-46PZ85U

NEC Plasma Sync 42XR4 HD Plasma TV

Pioneer PDP 5000EX Plasma TV

Panasonic Viera TH46PZ81B Plasma TV

Which LCD 46 Inch or 50 Inch LCD Should I Get?

Sony BRAVIA XBR KDL-46XBR4

Samsung LE46F86BD 46 Inch LCD TV

Samsung LN46A550 46 Inch LCD TV

Conclusion

Sure, you 2011 readers are rolling in laughter, but for those of us shopping for a new HDTV in 2008 the answer is clear; you have lots of great choices in the 46 to 50 inch screen size category this year!
For the best value we suggest you look at the LCD models; if you can live with the picture you’ll get more Bang for Your Buck. Look to Samsung and Sony for some of the best LCD models.

If you drive a German car and can’t live without Plasma, Sony, NEC, Panasonic and Pioneer have some great options for you!

Buying a new television is a big investment. And you want to be sure your new HDTV fits the viewing area and room in which you install it to be correctly matched. If you're shopping for a new LCD or Plasma TV, read our tips and advice on choosing the right size television screen before you buy!

We all want a TV that is large enough to give home theater quality but is there such a thing as too big when it comes to buying a new television?

The answer is it depends! Factors that determine the optimal size TV include the size of your room and how far you will be sitting from the screen as well as whether your TV is 4:3 or wide screen format.

Is There Such a Thing as Too Big?

While your natural impulse is to buy the biggest TV your budget allows, if you are sitting too close to a large screen television, the picture quality is likely to seem grainy and poor, which could make you less than satisfied with your investment.

On the other hand, if your home theater or other room in which you watch TV is large and you buy a unit that is too small, you could find yourself squinting to watch the nightly news or your favorite sports events and movies.

So, we’ve put together some facts and information to help you determine the best size TV for your living room or home theater room.

Normal Television Viewing Distance

Research shows that you will feel most comfortable when viewing “normal” 4:3 television shows from a distance that is from three to six times the width of your television screen. Any closer and you will feel crowded; much further and you will have trouble seeing fine details and enjoying the experience.

Refer to the following charts to determine the optimal size for your new TV based on the layout of your room and how far away from the screen you will typically be seated.

If you are buying a 4:3 “regular” format television:

Wide screen, high resolution DVD and HDTV picture quality changes the viewing distances considerably since the picture quality is higher and you want the experience to be more like being in a theater.

In this case, the optimal viewing distance may be as little as 1.5 times the diagonal width of your wide screen TV:

TV and Room Size

The optimal size of a TV is relative to the size of your room. A TV with a screen size under 30 inches is great for the bedroom, but probably won’t be adequate in a larger room intended to seat more than two people comfortably.

You also want to consider placement of your television; optimally the center of the screen should be aligned to eye level both horizontally and vertically.

Remember also that tube and rear projection units are deeper than flat panel models; this needs to be considered in terms of how the TV will be mounted or sit in your entertainment center or other cabinetry; you don’t want the screen protruding into the room.

Most TV models have matching stands and/or mounting hardware available optionally if you don’t have an existing entertainment center.

Samsung LN-T4061F Delivers great image quality and overall value with this 40 inch LCD model, with 1080p, Surround Sound and more. It is also on our List of Top Value HDTVs For 2008.
We reviewed this model back in January and have seen so much response we decided to update our review, including links to all the other top reviews of the Samsung LN-T4061F.

Samsung does it again, bringing us 1080p, great color range with 10,000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio, SRS TruSurround, 3 HDMI ports, USB 2.0 and loads of other features in this best ever 40-inch HTDV.

The LN-T4061F LCD delivers in every way, including the price (around $1,200 street price). In 2008, Samsung continues to show that LCD is nearly as good as Plasma but at much better price points for consumers who want the look of a Plasma but don’t want to pop for the higher costs!

Editor’s Product Summary

Merits: Flat-panel LCD HDTV offers accurate color and adjustability, deep black levels, a clean, crisp image, a nice remote control and superb styling. Good audio with TruSurround bottom speakers.

Demerits: Shadow detail could be better and, as with most LCD products image detail falls off as viewing angle increases.

Bottom Line: Although not quite the best of its breed, the Samsung LN-T4661F delivers very good picture quality with plenty of style and functionality.

Product Specs: HDTV type: LCD TV; Diagonal Image: 46 inches; Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 10000:1, HDMI-CEC single remote capability, SRS TruSurround XTâ„¢ system, full-bodied sound comes from two bottom speakers.

Wider Viewing Angles
Left side, right side or upside-down, whatever your LCD TV’s location, you can see any display clearly due to the 178° wide-viewing angle. Horizontally and vertically, your LCD TV will always be well placed to enjoy the entertainment no matter what your angle of view is.

CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp)
The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. Typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Certain Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors.

8ms Response Time
The ultra-fast eight-millisecond response time means smooth, crisp fast-action video.

10000:1 Dynamic Contrast
Samsung’s PVA screen enables brighter whites, deeper blacks and every shade in between. It’s higher contrast ratio provides an abundant palette of perfect colors.

SRS TruSurround XT
Samsung LCD TVs are equipped with the best that technology can offer in sound quality. Even when viewing regular broadcasts, our 2 speaker surround sound makes you feel as if the theater has been brought to your living room.

Side AV Inputs
Connect your LCD TV to the peripherals that add to your convenience.

PC Compatible
A Samsung LCD TV can function as a high-resolution PC monitor and a high-end TV without any sacrifice in picture quality. Outperforming PC monitors in brightness, response time, resolution, and of course, screen size, Samsung lets you adapt to the expanding multimedia revolution.

VESA Compatible
With the VESA compatibility feature, Samsung has provided hole mounts on the back of the LCD TVs that are based on the VESA standards. This way you can setup your TV on the wall the way you want it to look.

Swivel Stand
This new swivel stand feature provides a +/- 15 degree swivel to allow you to move your screen depending on where you want to watch your television. This convenient feature makes it easy to move the screen without lifting or moving your television.

SRS TruSurround XT(TM) audio fills the room with clear, robust sound. Fast, 16 micro-second switching speed virtually eliminates motion blur; Game Mode optimizes performance so gamers will marvel at the lifelike action. Full digital connectivity with 3 HDMI ports allows digital connectivity to Cable/Satellite boxes Blu-ray players, AV receivers, and more.
Integrated HDTV Tuner with the addition of a suitable UHF/VHF antenna delivers the world of free off-air DTV and HDTV local broadcast channels. An additional QAM tuner decodes unscrambled digital cable signals.

Cinema Smooth(TM) Light Engine
Samsung is the worldwide leader in creating light engines that harness DLP HDTV technology from Texas Instruments. Samsung`s Cinema Smooth light engine brings together the right optics, electronic circuitry and replaceable light source to create a brilliant picture that`s more lifelike and much closer to film. Now in its sixth year of evolution, Samsung`s Cinema Smooth light engine delivers crisp, 1080p High Definition resolution with high contrast and brightness, defined edges and sharp detail.

Cinema Smooth 1080p Light Engine
Samsung`s Cinema Smooth 1080p light engine is the culmination of years of industry leading research and development. It releases the maximum power of the new generation of DMD microdisplays for the most film-like picture. It creates an image with no visible pixel structure and accurate shading and better low-light detail.

Next Generation DLP Chips from Texas Instruments
Samsung employs a Texas Instruments DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any other HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on & off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. When combined with Samsung`s new Cinema Smooth light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that`s closer to film.

Faster 5 Segment Color Wheel for High Contrast and Brightness
Samsung`s 2.2 color wheel spins at 14,400 rpm for smooth fast-motion video, and has five color segments for more accurate colors. Comprised of five colors, Red, Green, and Blue, plus Cyan and Yellow, it achieves film-like transitions and eliminates the pixel breakup found in slower color wheel designs and slower-switching LCD microdisplays. The Cinema Smooth(TM) light engine uses a whisper quiet air bearing design.

Samsung`s DNIe(TM) – Digital Natural Image Engine
Samsung`s exclusive Digital Natural Image engine makes the sharpest and clearest images possible, regardless of the profile of input signals. Five image processors and a six-times density enhancer ensure the best picture from any source. Now in its sixth generation (since 2002), DNIe guarantees the truest colors and highest contrast, while virtually eliminating digital artifacts.
My Color Control
You can get the pink tones, the green of the grass and the blue of the sky just the way you like, without affecting the other colors on the screen. The three major colors can be adjusted to perfectly fit your taste. Self expression meets display perfection.

Cinema Mode
Samsung`s Cinema Mode lets you see colors the way the director intended, by matching them more closely to production standards. This creates more accurate colors and natural skin tones when viewing Hollywood movies on your TV—the perfect setting when enjoying movies with the lights off.

Cinema Smooth(TM) Film Mode 3:2 Pull Down
Powered by Samsung`s Cinema Smooth technology, 3:2 Pull Down corrects for the artificial frames created when films are converted to DVDs. The result is a clearer image without the subtle motion artifacts caused by 24-to-30 frames per second video conversion.
Picture Format Size Adjustment
Enjoy all your 4:3 aspect-ratio programming in smooth, wide-screen without black bars. Four pre-set aspect ratio modes—Normal, Wide, Zoom 1 and Zoom 2—stretch your image to fill the screen naturally.

Energy Efficient
Samsung DLP TVs are more energy efficient than many flat panel TVs, resulting in significant utility savings over the life of the TV.

Color Temperature Adjustments
Cool1, Cool2, Normal, Warm1, Warm2 selectable with on-screen display.
3D Comb Filter dramatically reduces edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.
Previous Channel returns to the previously viewed channel at the push of a button.
Game Mode enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response and enhances the sounds of your games. Picture and sound quality optimized for the special needs of gaming systems at the touch of a button.
Closed Caption displays dialog that can be read along with encoded broadcast TV programs and pre-recorded videos.
Non Volatile Memory preserves audio, video and menu settings during power outages.
Auto Volume Leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing to minimize static sound bursts.

Discrete IR Codes
This set is equipped with discrete IR codes for use with an optional macro/programmable remote (see owners manual for details).
Universal Remote Control permits control of the TV, DVD, VCR and a Tuner/Receiver.
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) addresses both pure digital audio and video performance and simplifies connections from the new generation set-top boxes, HD game consoles, HD Blu-ray(TM) and DVD players by reducing cable connections to one cable and plug.
DTV and DVD Compatible Connect your DVD and DTV sources with two smart component video (Y/Pb/Pr) inputs that accept 480p/720p/1080i/1080p signals.
PC
A Samsung HDTV using DLP technology can also function as a high-quality XGA PC monitor with 1080p compatibility.

If you are in the market for a new TV in 2008, you may be surprised how much you’ll get for your hard earned dollar these days!

With the cost of Plasma and LCD flat panel TVs coming down rapidly, the old CRT tube models are slowly going away, even towards the low end range of the market.

You’ll find literally hundreds of television models reviewed on our web site, all categorized by size, brand, price range and special features to make it easy for you to compare models!

To help you match your TV budget to the typical price range, the tvsreview.com staff has put together this easy to use guide.

The prices listed here reflect the “street prices” not the manufacturers’ suggested retail prices, which are over inflated and should never be paid unless you are buying the latest, top of the line model and just have to be the first kid on your block to own it. Screen sizes listed are measured diagonally.

The guide offers you practical advice on what to look for within seven distinct price brackets:

Less than $300

$300 to $500

$500 to $750

$750 to $1,000

$1,000 to $1,500

$1,500 to $3,000

Over $3,000

TVs Costing Less Than $300

At the low end of the market, CRT tubes are still common, with 25 to 27 inch units that once cost well over $500 now available in the sub $300 range.

If you are in the market for an LCD flat screen unit, you can now shop around and find a deal on models that feature screen sizes of 21 inches and smaller. Don’t expect a lot of features such as picture-in-picture or tons of inputs in this lowest budget class however.

Best brands to look for under $300 include Toshiba, Samsung and Sharp, among others.

TVs in the $300 to $500 Price Range

If your budget is in this range, you can find both flat panel LCD and CRT tube models with up to a 32 inch screen size.

Televisions costing between $500 and $750

Expect to find CRT tube models up to 36 inches and LCD flat panel models up to 37 inches if your budget is between $500 and $750, with the CRT models generally offering more features such as multiple video and audio inputs.

TVs in the $750 to $1,000 Budget Range

Stepping your budget up towards $1,000 will buy a flat panel unit up to a 42 inch flat panel LCD screen or you can choose from lower end Plasma models up to 42 inches. You will also find DLP, LCD, LCoS rear-projection models up to 62 inches under $1,000 if you shop around a little.

TVs in the Price Range of $1,000 to $1,500

If you have a budget between one-thousand and fifteen-hundred dollars you can find flat panel LCD models up to about 47 inches and Plasma units up to 50 inches. DLP, LCD, LCoS rear-projection models up to 62 inches in this price range will generally have more features than the discounted models under $1,000.

TVs Priced from $1,500 to $3,000

If you are looking for a larger TV and can pay between fifteen-hundred and two-thousand dollars for your new television, then expect to find an LCD flat panel model up to 52 inches, a Plasma unit up to 60 inches or a DLP or LCoS rear-projection model with up to 73 inch screen.

TVs over $3,000

If you budget more than three-thousand dollars, you can find a flat panel LCD TV model up to 70 inches, a Plasma model up to 103 inches, DLP or LCoS rear-projection TVs up to 73 inches.

Features abound in this budget class, with all the latest bells and whistles you want to make your home theater state-of-the-art.

Brands to look for at the high end of the market include Sony, which no longer markets Plasma models, betting instead on its LCD models to take the lead soon, having launched their full HD 1080p W series Bravia models last year.

Panasonic and Samsung continue to bet on Plasma as the long term leading technology in large screen TVs, announcing its new record 150 inch screen at CES.

Also hitting the market soon is the Mitsubishi 65 inch Laser TV, introduced in Japan in early 2008 and scheduled to hit the North American market later in the year.

If budget is not your primary concern and you want to splurge, you certainly have plenty of great options in this $3,000 plus price range!

The PT-AX200U projector produces bright, eye-catching images, buoyed by its 220-W UHM™ lamp and optical unit that combine to generate 2, 000-lumen brightness. It also incorporates Panasonic’s improved Light Harmonizer 2 image technology, which measures ambient light and adjusts the image brightness by controlling not only the gamma curve, but also the iris setting, lamp power, and picture sharpness to maintain bright, crisp and vivid pictures under any lighting condition.

The PT-AX200U ships with a new gaming mode so consumers can enjoy playing their favorite video games. According to the Entertainment Software Association, game software sales reached approximately 240 million units during 2006 and Panasonic is poised to begin capturing this market. Compared with Panasonic’s prior model, the new projector’s gaming mode improves signal processing for 1/3 response time, using the controller buttons. Gamers can also program and save up to eight settings for games or movies, making it easy to view the content as they wish. In addition, picture quality characteristics have been specifically tuned to reveal more image details that were previously not as visible in very dark or over-saturated areas that are prevalent in many games.

The PT-AX200U’s Pure Color Filter uses optical adjustment to achieve accurate color reproduction, going a step further than conventional projectors that reproduce colors by adjusting the white balance. The color filter achieves a higher purity level of the three primary colors – red, green and blue – displays deeper, purer blacks, and significantly expands the color gamut. In addition, the new Smooth Screen technology uses crystal double refraction to arrange pixels on a screen with no gaps in between them – producing vivid, smooth images found in commercial movie theaters.
The technology also enhances images’ three dimensional effect for a completely immersive viewer experience. The new home theater projector’s Cinema Color Management feature allows the users to control color correction of up to approximately 1, 070, 000, 000 colors to create images to their liking. The users can now store up to eight adjustment settings into the memory with custom names.

2,000-Lumen Brightness — Brightest in its Class
Panasonic developed an extremely powerful lamp to realize an outstanding brightness of 2,000 lumens, brightest in its class

Light Harmonizer 2 Brings Crisp Picture in Various Lightings
Together with the 2,000-lumens brightness, Panasonic’s Light Harmonizer 2 technology produces vivid and easy to see images even in the kind of bright lighting that makes images from other projectors look whitish, faded or lacking in detail. In addition, it has a built-in ambient light sensor (ALS) that measures the amount of light in your room to optimize the picture quality at different lighting conditions. Light Harmonizer 2 circuit not only adjusts the gamma curve, but also controls iris setting, lamp power, and picture sharpness to maintain easy, comfortable viewing at all times

Game Mode for Stress-Free Playing
The PT-AX200 features a “Game” mode that improves signal processing for better response, allowing you to play games with minimal stress. It also reveals gradation in saturated areas to show detail that are otherwise lost in very dark areas

Cinema 1 Mode Offers Hollywood Picture Quality
Panasonic worked with experts in Hollywood — the movie capital of the world — to create the ideal image reproduction for viewing movies. This allows the PT-AX200 to deliver true Hollywood picture quality, with images that faithfully express the director’s artistic intent

Pure Color Filter
The Pure Color Filter was born from Panasonic’s pursuit of optical technology that delivers true Hollywood picture quality. The light spectrum is adjusted to produce a level of light that maximizes the performance of the LCD panels, which expands the color range and produces truer blacks

Smooth Screen Technology
Developed exclusively by Panasonic, this effectively reduces the black lines between pixels that mar picture quality. The high definition picture of the PT-AX200 is remarkably smooth and film-like, while remaining amazingly sharp and detailed

Dynamic Iris
Dynamic Iris has been refined to provide deeper, richer blacks needed for true image reproduction with stunning smoothness. This technology adjusts the lamp power, iris, and gamma curve according to data obtained from frame-by-frame histogram analysis of the image brightness level

Advanced Dynamic Sharpness Control
The new Advanced Dynamic Sharpness Control determines image areas that need to be sharpened at varying degrees by examining small changes in brightness levels within the image. This greatly reduces noise amplification and delivers clear and natural looking images

DLP projection: Because DLP is up to 1000x faster than other display technologies, it produces quick, clear motion making it the best choice for sports. Also, it is immune to image retention (burn-in) because it is based on mirrors.

Full HD 1080p resolution: See all of your programming in the highest resolution currently possible. Many Microdisplay, LCD and Plasma sets are only able to display 1280 x 720 pixels. When showing 1080i content (1920 x 1080), these sets will lower the resolution. Not with a 1080p set. This never throws any resolution away.

Slim depth: Projection TVs don’t need to be deep and bulky. This set is only 11.5" deep so that it will fit on almost any table, or get the wall unit and get rid of the table, too. This fits where others won’t.

Cinema Smooth™ Light Engine: Samsung has been building rear projection DLP sets longer than any other manufacturer. The light engine has been refined to produce a crystal-clear image with a high 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuners: Receive free digital broadcasts, including HD, through an over the air antenna. QAM allows you to receive unscrambled HD from your cable provider without a set top box.

Game Mode: Enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response and enhances the sounds of your games. Picture and sound quality are optimized for the special needs of gaming systems at the touch of a button.

3 HDMI inputs: HDMI is the best digital connection for today’s High Definition sources. Samsung gives you 3 of these inputs so that you can always take advantage of the best signal.

According to a recent survey most adults want a big screen television this Christmas! So I thought of bringing your notice to the funky pink (so it’s only for girls unless ……) Sony Bravia HD-ready KDL20S3070. Err, it isn’t really a Big screen at 20 inches but then it might be a big one for your girl who wouldn’t mind a Fuchsia Pink Sony Bravia. This television is ‘high definition ready’ which means it has the ability to display high definition signals with the addition of a separate HD receiver. HD broadcasts are at a much higher resolution than regular analogue or digital broadcasts and have greatly enhanced picture quality. The level of detail is astonishing with clearer, sharper and more vibrant images. It features an integrated digital tuner for a wider choice of terrestrial channels, plus connections to link the TV up to your computer. A fast response time means fast-moving images such as sports or action sequences remain pin sharp, without any motion blur. And, a high 4000:1 contrast ratio produces more depth, richness and picture detail. For £ 445 ($1,000), you definitely cannot expect a Big Sony Bravia and that to in a gal-pleasing shade.

The e-tailer is touting yet another "Woot launch," which just so happens to be a brand new InFocus DLP projector aimed at gamers and those on a budget. The metallic blue Play Big IN1 features a 640 x 480 native resolution, S-Video / component / composite inputs, 500 ANSI lumens, a 1,500:1 contrast ratio, integrated stereo speakers and headphone / RCA audio outputs. Sure, the specs won’t blow any doors in, but when you’re only asked to fork out $499, there’s not too much room to grouse. Oh, and Woot’s also throwing in a set of Wii component cables, so there’s that, and for those unfamiliar with how Woot works, we’ll just suggest that you pull the trigger now and contemplate later.

Envision this afternoon fought to lower the barrier for entry into HDTVs with the L32W661, a 32-inch display geared towards students and others who might not have the space or money for larger screens. It should ship for $649 but will be one of the few in its class to offer meaningful input and image quality; in contrast to the earlier W698, the W661 brings dual HDMI inputs that gives users space for an HD DVD player or a PlayStation 3 without disrupting their main TV link. Envision also musters a 1,200:1 static contrast ratio and a 178-degree horizontal viewing angle that prevents color shifts for multiple viewers.

Also part of the design are a 16-watt stereo speaker set with an SPDIF interface, dual component and single VGA inputs, and the by now mandatory ATSC and ClearQAM HD tuners to pick up unencrypted HDTV broadcasts without a separate cable box. Envision says the set should be available now, though has not said whether it will drop the similarly-priced W698 from shelves.

Audiovox Electronics FPE2607DV is a perfect size for use in small living rooms, bedrooms and offices. This 26″ HD flat panel TV with built-in DVD makes it easy for you to watch your favorite movie, broadcast, cable and satellite programs, or play your favorite video games in any room in the house. This unit is VESA wall mount compatible or can be used on its stand. The FPE2607DV features Faroudja’s Emmy award-winning DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology, which helps to eliminate the jagginess found in non-HD video content. Faroudjas unique DCDi algorithm identifies all the moving edges in a scene and adjusts the angle of interpolation at each pixel so that the interpolation always follows the edge instead of crossing it, eliminating staircasing or jagged edge artifacts.

It also features a 16:9 aspect ratio that enables you to watch widescreen, high-definition programming (1080i/720p/480p/480i) when connected to an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box via the component video inputs. You can also use this set as a PC monitor via the VGA connection. In addition to playing standard DVD movie and CD audio discs, it’s also compatible with playing DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW discs. Other features include built-in ATSC tuner, Faroudja DCDi inside, removable tilt stand, progressive scan, closed captioning, V-chip parental controls, HDMI input, SRS surround sound, pull down 3:2 & 2:2 Pull-Down with Motion Compensation. Now in its sixth year of evolution, Samsung’s Cinema Smooth light engine delivers crisp, 1080p High Definition resolution with high contrast and brightness, defined edges and sharp detail.

The consumer watchdog has released it’s result on the reliability of plasma, lcd and projection tv and has said that plasma and lcd tv are as reliable as your CRT.

It stated that there are no repair issues during the first year or two of use for LCD TVs from major TV manufacturers – including JVC, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba. (Dell LCD sets have had higher than average repairs).

In plasma, there have been no repair issues for Fujitsu, Hitachi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony or Toshiba. Plasma tv from Philips and Vizio however, has been higher than average.

When it comes to rear projection tv, the results have not been so encouraging.

It stated that rear-projection TVs using CRTs have been much more repair-prone than conventional picture-tube sets, with double the rate of repairs for five-year-old sets. The repair rates for the four brands for Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Sony, and Toshiba are comparable.

With the exception of Toshiba’s DLP, rear-projection microdisplay TVs using LCD, DLP, or LCoS technology have been even more repair-prone than CRT-based rear-projection TVs during their first year of operation. JVC’s LCoS is one of the worst performing set in this category.

So, the results are now in. Which set do you have, and do you agree with this findings?

Okay, today i just like to tell you why plasma tv is a great tv ( for those who have some money to burn )

1) Superb Picture
Plasma tv has more resolution, use no scan lines like normal tv that sits in your grandma’s kitchen and has the ability to show billions of color. So what you’ll see is stunnning real life picture quality right in your home.

2) It gives you a normal view
The wide design you find in plasma tv will match human eye’s natural field of view. So you will see all your movies, games or porn ( ehem!) as if it’s in front of you.

3) More enjoyment for more people
Plasma tv comes with flat screen and nearly 180% viewing angle. Thus, you don’t need to cram your couch with your dogs, girlfriend, grandma and your buddies while watching. Everyone can sit anywwhere in the room and still enjoy the view – without distortion or glare.

4) Saves you space
Hung in in the wall like a painting and enjoy superb tv that doesn’t consume your space. In fact it’s just like your decor.

5) Dual use
Some plasma can accept incoming pc signal and be a PC monitor for you.

That’s all folks. I can make the plusses grow but with all the technical jargon and stuff. However, I think this simple guide is enough for you to understand a little bit about plasma tv.

Okay, now go tell your girlfriend that you guys need a plasma. The 3 weeks rent can wait later ..
