Sony intros three new ES receiver models

June 27th, 2008

Sony has announced three new AV receivers under its “Elevated Standard” line, the STR-DA2400ES, 3400ES and 4400ES. All of them are capable of 1080/24p output, and decoding several audio codecs, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS High Resolution and DTS HD Master Audio. A built-in Faroudja DCDi Cinema chip upscales all video to 1080p when streamed via HDMI. The 4400ES is the top-end model, and has a 120W amplifier that services 7.1 channels. Six HDMI inputs are supplied, and streams can be directed to multiple zones simultaneously, including two video and three audio zones. It should ship in August for $1,500.

The 3400ES steps power down to 100W, and HDMI inputs down to four. Likewise, zone distribution includes only two video options, one of which must be composite. Finally, the 2400ES loses zone support entirely. The former will be out in August for $1,000, while the latter will arrive in July for $800.

The new BRAVIA V4000 series

May 20th, 2008

image

The sleek, exquisitely designed BRAVIA™ V4000 series LCD TV makes a bigger, better home cinema experience even more accessible. This feature-packed television delivers exhilarating Full HD picture quality and seamless connectivity that’s sure to excite home theatre fans. The stylish BRAVIA™ V4000 series is available initially in three screen sizes: 40-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch. Other screen sizes will be available from later this year.
The BRAVIA™ 4000 series features elegant, understated looks inspired by Sony’s innovative draw the LINE design concept. A sophisticated evolution from previous-generation TV designs, this minimalist philosophy accentuates the beautiful HD pictures being displayed without dominating your living space – even at larger screen sizes.
Featuring an integrated DVB-C/DVB-T tuner*, the V4000 complements a 1080p Full HD LCD panel with an array of advanced signal processing technologies by Sony. The result is supremely realistic images with any HD source, including Blu-ray Disc™ players, PlayStation®3 or Handycam® HD camcorders by Sony.
Full HD picture quality is superb thanks to latest-generation BRAVIA™ ENGINE 2 technology that gives images an unmatched richness and depth. The LCD panel offers a very high dynamic contrast ratio of 33000:1 (40-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch models), ensuring deep, cinema-like blacks plus sparkling highlights.

For an even more authentic home theatre experience, 24p True Cinema™ mode displays movies from Blu-ray Discs™ at the correct frame rate and thus the original speed. When the movie is not shown at the speed of the original studio master the picture quality and even the actors’ voices are distorted. 24p True Cinema™ eliminates this traditional problem caused by the conversion from theatrical presentation format to the frame rate that conventional televisions use.
BRAVIA™ Sync simplifies control of your complete home theatre system using the TV’s supplied remote at the touch of a button. BRAVIA™ Sync also allows simple operation of a connected compatible Handycam® camcorder from the television’s remote.
Three HDMI sockets give extra flexibility, allowing one-cable connection to sources including PlayStation®3, Blu-ray Disc™ players and Handycam® HD camcorders.
“The BRAVIA™ V4000 series represents a stunning synthesis of Sony’s unmatched expertise in HD technology, user-friendly features and cutting-edge styling“, says George Damigos, General Manager, Marketing, TV Operations Europe, Sony Europe. “The new V4000 series is a perfect answer for anyone who’s looking to fill their living room with bigger, better Full HD pictures and sound. Best of all, it offers extraordinary value for anyone who’s serious about creating a home cinema experience like no other.”

Bang & Olufsen’s new TV screen speakers

May 15th, 2008

Like  listening to music on a good set of speakers? Well if you leave it to Bang & Olufsen then rest assured you can be sure that this company will break the mould with their new designs. And that is exactly what has happened once again, this time with a TV under-screen speaker. While other manufacturers toil away with boring rectangles and cylindrical designs, the B&O wizards have gone a completely different geometric route: a triangle. The “BeoLab 10″ is a center speaker designed to work with the “BeoVision 4″ HDTV. Mounted beneath the plasma, according to Audio Junkies, it uses its “Acoustic Lens Technology” to disperse sound 180 degrees with twin amplifiers.

And never leaving anything to chance, B&O is also planning to offer a range of grill covers to match any given decor. Pricing has not been released yet but, given the company’s reputation, the BeoLab 10 might require you to move into a smaller place to afford it.

Novel ty goggle-box maker HANNSpree has launched another unusual televisual offering into its UK product range with the introduction of the “Starlight Blue”.
The Starlight Blue features a starry night sky inspired 3D design. A touch of light on the 15-inch Starlight Blue LCD TV sets the diamond polycarbonate materials to sparkle, “like stars on a clear, starry night”.
The Starlight Blue’s contours mimic that of crescent moons, and the night sky theme continues with randomly lit crescent moon shapes and a futuristic, orbital theme stand.
Specs aren’t quite as galactic as the funky design at 1024 x 768 XGA resolution, 500cdm2 brightness, 500:1 contrast ratio, 150 degrees viewing angle with 2 x 2 Watt speakers but no doubt young star-gazers will be more than happy to make the compromise.
The Starlight Blur is one of a number of HANNspree televisions (including some from the Zoo range, and the TimeSquare model) currently on offer for £99 direct from HANNspree, order line is 0871 666 0850.
