The 50PY3D delivers a very detailed 1,080p picture and adds several picture enhancement features, all at a price that won’t break the bank. LG’s XD Engine employs six processes to improve the picture, such as upscaling low-resolution analog signals by improving brightness, contrast, detail, and enhancing color. It also reduces signal noise. LG’s Black Stretcher acts as an enhancer for black levels. A high-contrast screen filter cuts glare, which is particularly annoying when watching TV in a well-lit room.

With this LG plasma TV review there might be a need to give out the specifics like this LG HDTV plasma ‘s dimensions for example. The LG 50PC3D plasma TV measures 51.3 by 34.3 by 14 inches (WHD) including the stand, and the panel itself measures a nice 4.2 inches thick. There’s just something classy about this 50 LG plasma TV’s design of charcoal grey surrounding the big screen and silver near the edges.

The video menu doesn’t have as many advanced adjustments as some of LG’s newer, higher-end plasmas, like the 50PG60, but the major bases are covered. You get five picture modes and four color temperature options, including a user mode through which you can fine-tune the global red, green and blue settings to achieve a more accurate white balance. There is an option to enable LG’s XD processing, with contrast, color and noise settings. The menu also offers several features to prevent and counteract the effects of image retention, a common plasma concern.

A fairly well-organized on-screen display menu lets you adjust the TV’s many settings, which include individual red, green, and blue controls under the color temperature submenu. Color presets for Dynamic, Standard, and Mild adjust contrast, brightness, and vividness. I found Dynamic to be the most eye-catching setting, but colors were artificially saturated; the other two settings seemed more life-like. Two additional User modes let you program your own custom TV presets.

As with all HDTVs, the 50PY3D provides several picture presets that help you easily optimize picture quality for varying room environments. Color and luminance measurements using a Konica Minolta CS-200 chroma meter revealed that the 50PY3D’s “mild” picture preset came closest to matching standards used in broadcast TV and cinema production. I found its colors were slightly oversaturated, but uniformly so. The TV’s mild preset negatively affected standard-definition (SD) picture quality by softening the picture excessively.
