This 46-inch LCD HDTV has a 1920 x 1080 resolution and an eight-millisecond response time. Part of Mitsubishi’s high-end Diamond Series, this TV features the company’s smooth 120Hz technology to reduce motion blur, a common LCD issue, and boasts a generous connection panel that includes four HDMI and three component video inputs, plus a CableCARD slot and dual RF inputs to access the ATSC, NTSC and ClearQAM tuners. The HDMI inputs accept 1080p/60 and 1080p/24. Both an HDMI and component input are located on the side panel for easy access. The TV lacks a PC input, but it does offer RS-232 and Mitsubishi’s NetCommand system, which allows for more intuitive control of analog and digital sources.

Some of the other features of this television include a USB 2.0 port that allows you to dynamically connect with all of your digital devices. Of course, this isn’t the only port that lets you connect various electronic devices to your television. You are given 2 S-video inputs as well as 4 HDMI inputs and 5 stereo inputs, which makes it extremely easy to connect more speakers to your already amazing sounding television.

The LT-46244 swivels on its stand, which comes in handy for watching it at odd angles and for accessing its rear inputs. You’ll want that access to be as easy as possible because several of the inputs face downward, making them unusually difficult to use (luckily, you get a good selection of easy-to-access side inputs as well). Other worthwhile features are a USB port for photo slide shows, and an energy-saving option that reduces power consumption when the TV is off (at the price of turning on slower).

The LT-46244 has built-in tuners for receiving your local digital and analog over-the-air broadcasts (antenna required). You can use the set’s built-in digital cable TV tuner with or without a CableCARD. If your cable provider supports CableCARD, leasing one will let you watch all your channels, including scrambled programs, without a set-top box.

All DLP sets are now 1080p, but that’s hardly earth-shattering news at this point. More interesting is that they feature High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 1.3 inputs, x.v.Color, and—in the case of the Diamond line—120Hz refresh rates. The new HDMI standard more than doubles its bandwidth, which will allow for greater color bit depths and helps make possible x.v.Color’s extended color palette. Like 1080p support a couple of years ago, this feature doesn’t have much practical value today, since there isn’t much video material that makes use of x.v.Color yet. The HDTV community is also abuzz over 120Hz refresh rates, since they can help provide smoother reproduction of film-based sources than the current 60Hz refresh-rate standard.
