The Panasonic PZ850 Series isn’t just an ordinary Plasma series, it’s one of the first to be “web-enabled” aka Viera Cast, which provides access to some of the most popular website on the Internet today such as YouTube, Bloomberg and Google Picasa web album. The TH-46PZ850U uses Panasonic’s most advanced 1080p plasma panel technology. It can reproduce 5,120 shades of gray — 25% more than last year’s models — for naturally seamless colors. Picture contrast is outstanding too, with notably deep black levels. This TV’s 24p Cinematic Playback mode optimizes 1080p video from a Blu-ray player — it doubles the original playback frame rate to 48 frames per second, just like most theater projectors do. You’ll see a remarkably smooth, cinematic picture.

One of the key features of the line is the new VIERACast IPTV system. Essentially, it’s a portal that lets you access specific Internet entertainment right from your television, and it currently features four different content providers: YouTube (videos), Picasa (pictures), the Weather Channel (weather) and Bloomberg (market information). Once you plug an Ethernet cord into the back of the TV, you’ll be able to browse and search YouTube with the TV’s remote, and the system will allow you to log in to your YouTube account in order to access favorites, personal videos and other options. You’ll also be able to access your pictures if you store them on Picasa.
