When you think about slim LCD HDTVs, think BRAVIA Z-Series. Slim black or silver bezels and thin profiles accent the elegant yet functional design, with performance that’s all Sony. 10-bit processing and 10-bit displays, x.v.Color technology and Deep Color render a wide color gamut and smooth color transitions. Motionflow 120Hz and 24p True Cinema provide smoother picture performance with unprocessed 24p film reproduction. Z-Series HDTVs include Sony’s innovative DMex technology which offers an expandable platform that “future-proofs” Sony HDTVs, ensuring they connect seamlessly not only with current Sony camcorders, computers, and digital cameras, but also to devices that haven’t even been invented yet. HDMI-CEC compatibility means you can control everything from one remote. They are even DLNA compliant, offer Sony’s unique PhotoTV HD, and include swivel stands.

The Sony KDL-40Z4100 High Definition LCD TV and its big brother the KDL-46Z4100 are beautifully stylish TVs with slim, sleek bezels and feature a thin overall depth. The brand new LCD models from Sony perform as well as they look. The models are being touted as complete entertainment solutions. Features include a Digital Media Port, Internet Video Link and DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compatibility. They’re coming soon and among 17 new Sony LCD HDTV models unveiled at CES 2008.

The remote control included with the Z series is also different from other models, although, ergonomically we liked it less than the simpler wand that comes with the W models. Yes, the Z remote is bigger, backlit with blue lighting, and festooned with more buttons, but most of the controls are for other gear (the Z remote is universal, unlike the W remote) and the extra controls that actually pertain to the TV aren’t arranged as well. It’s also difficult to differentiate between the buttons that ring the main cursor control, and the larger size makes the stretch for the volume and channel controls a bit much. It’s still not a bad remote; it’s just not up to Sony’s usual standards.

The KDL-46Z4100 was able to produce a clean and detailed picture with 1080i/p HD video sources except for when the video was originally recorded at 24p (many prime-time TV shows, feature films, and Blu-ray movies). In this case, the set would quickly and correctly detect such videos as originating from 24p material, but it would almost as quickly lose its “lock,” resulting in loss of fine detail. Further testing revealed that the TV’s Video/Photo Optimizer picture setting could be adjusted to correct this issue. A Sony representative confirmed my findings and provided a firmware update that appears to fix this problem; the update was not publicly available at the time of this article, however, and Sony was unable to confirm whether current owners would be able to download it from Sony’s online support site.

Hi,
I’ve tried reaching you but I haven’t received a reply. I work with a client who would like some exposure on your site. Preferably in connection to when you do a review/post about a product.
My client works with tech gadget reviews and they would blend in great with your site. If you are interested I can explain a bit further about what I have in mind.
Regards,
Will
