The HP LC3760N is a 37-inch, liquid crystal display television. Compared to other liquid crystal display TVs on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $1,245. This unit has an LCD display, which is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms.
With built-in HDTV compatibility, this TV set can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition. (It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.) The 3:2 pulldown feature of this TV reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.

The MediaSmart element of the HP SLC3760N is essentially a network media device that’s built into the back of the TV. You can make either a wireless or wired Ethernet connection to your home network and stream photos, music, and movies from networked PCs and storage devices. To work with the HP, according to the manual, your PC needs to have Microsoft’s Windows Media Connect installed–a requirement that precludes Macintosh computers and older PCs.

The LC37760N has a clear picture with a high contrast ratio, excellent response time, and wide viewing angle that delivers a great analog TV picture, as well as HD. Its widescreen format means you’ll be able to enjoy movies more, as well. The two built-in speakers are conveniently placed on the front of the unit, but for real 3D surround sound you’ll want to connect the set to a receiver and at least a 5.1 speaker setup. The remote is amazingly simple to use and logically arranged for something that does so much.

Get used to a brighter, crisper picture and realistic detail, thanks to the high contrast ratio of up to 1200:12 and 3-D color enrichment. Sharpen the picture, scene by scene: this TV combines contrast adaptation with data about your room’s lighting. Eliminate motion blur with response times as fast as 6 ms. View in total comfort with the adjustable, 176-degree angles.

The LC3760N does deliver all the resolution of 720p signals via its HDMI inputs as measured with a Sencore VP403 HDTV signal generator. The Chronicles of Riddick from our Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player looked fine in terms of detail and clarity. Color needed to be backed down considerably in order to achieve a reasonably natural look, which unfortunately causes all of the colors to appear duller, but otherwise high-def performance was solid.
