The Sharp Aquos LC46D64U HDTV is a full high definition LCD TV. This is one of the slimmest HDTV models in the market. The 4ms response time of Sharp Aquos LC46D64U HDTV is really fast. The Aquos D64U Series fits a large screen size into incredibly small footprints. The depth of the D64U series is reduced by 30% by changing the layout of the circuits inside the LCD panel. Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel is utilized to provide 10,000:1 Dynamic-Contrast Ratio with Enhanced Picture Contrast Technology and 4ms response time. Place the TV practically anywhere in the room with a 176 degrees wide viewing angle. Enhanced Black Level provides the deepest, most accurate black of any flat panel TV.

The Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U is an entry level LCD HDTV. Supporting 1080p content, it’s capable of displaying the highest quality video out there, unfortunately this 46-inch HDTVs performance was less than impressive. The price may be attractive to many, however, as it can be had for as little as $1300.The Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U is not a particularly attractive TV. In fact, many will find it downright unattractive. Add to this one of the worst remotes we’ve ever seen and you probably won’t be showing off the Aquos LC-46D64U to your friends. The menu system is simple and straightforward, but like everything else on the TV, it lacks any element of style.

If you do purchase the Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U we recommend you also invest in a surround sound system. The built-in speakers are amongst the worst we’ve seen in an HDTV. We were happier with the connectivity options, which includes three HDMI ports – reasonable for a TV in this price range – and all the additional standard ports you could want. Many of the ports are easily accessible just around the right side of the TV.

Sharp’s innovative LCD panel technology, Advanced Super View panels provide pure whites, deep blacks and a vivid range of color. The panel provides a dynamic contrast ratio up to 27,000:1 and LCD TV industry leading 4ms response time for true film-like smoothness. A 10-bit panel increases the color capability from more than 16 million colors to more than one billion colors. This means richer color and a more accurate, more brilliant depiction of the world on screen.

The Sharp is reasonably easy to use. Text displayed in the on-screen menus is small but readable, and the menus themselves look good. Unlike other sets’ menus, the Sharp’s main menu doesn’t disappear when you adjust a video setting; but that’s not too much of a problem, since the menu doesn’t take up much of the screen. You can backlight the nicely shaped remote at the touch of a button, but some important controls (including menu and mute) have annoyingly small buttons–and though these buttons light up, the labels that identify them don’t.

In addition to the remote and batteries the Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U ships with a power cord, manual and all the various screws you will need to connect the stand to the TV. It does not include any cables, which is a shame. We feel any modern HDTV should ship with at least on HDMI cable to get you started. The TV was relatively easy to get out of the box, as easy as any other TV, without any complicated packaging. Simply open the top, remove the spacers and pull the TV out.

In addition to a whopping eight picture modes and five color-temperature settings, the LC-46D64U features a Color Management System that lets you precisely adjust the hue and saturation of the six color points. The OPC feature automatically adjusts image brightness based on your room’s lighting conditions. However, advanced white-balance and gamma controls are not available. The TV features four aspect-ratio options for both HD and SD sources, including a Dot by Dot mode for viewing 1080i/1080p images with no overscan.
