The viewing angle of this LCD TV was very good but certainly not 100% at 170 degrees as advertised. Sure, a viewer can see the picture image from side angles but the picture, as with all LCD TVs, starts to degrade at an off axis angle of around 90 degrees. The viewer will lose a lot of contrast and saturation after that. This is one area in which plasma TVs just have LCD Televisions beat despite improvements by the LCD manufacturers.

The built-in HDTV tuner lets you receive local over-the-air (OTA) HD broadcasts by connecting an HD antenna to it. HD pictures from local HD channels are sharp and bright especially ABC® Channel 7™ News which is in high definition and is very impressive. It has three dimensional looks because this picture is in 1.78:1 aspect ratio and fills the screen completely. HD movies in 2.35:1 can’t utilize 33% of the screen resolution and 20% of the monitor’s brightness but still the picture is impressive. The blank horizontal area on the top and bottom of the picture is completely dark black. It gives a look of horizontal masking to improve the appearance of the Cinemascope picture.
