The ultimate interactive experience is here. The SAMSUNG BD-P2500 is BD-Live 2.0 Ready so you can enjoy special interactive features, download extra content from the internet and more. Netflix instant streaming ready
Are you a Netflix member? You no longer have to wait by the mailbox to satisfy your flix fix. Instantly stream from a selection of over 12,000 (and growing) movies and TV shows. The number of titles you can stream per month depends on which Netflix subscription plan you choose.

HQV

Watch movies the way Hollywood shoots them. HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) technology matches the video processing power used in Hollywood’s post-production facilities to deliver the purest picture quality possible. Performing one trillion operations per second, HQV video processing elevates less-than-perfect video to a new level.

Firmware upgrades

Your new Samsung Blu-ray Disc™ player won’t be obsolete the moment you bring it home from the store. It’s equipped with an Ethernet connection so you can download the latest firmware upgrade and add new features. If your player needs more local storage to take advantage of these features, simply plug in a memory stick with at least 1GB of memory into the USB port.

BD-Live 2.0
Get more out of a Blu-ray Disc™ than what’s on it. BD-Live 2.0 lets studios future-proof their Blu-ray titles, so they can add content to BD-Live Ready discs even after they have been shipped. Simply connect your Blu-ray player to the Internet to download images, subtitles and more. Text-chat with friends during a movie, or play against others in online trivia games to unlock exclusive video content and earn discounts on other products. BD-Live Ready players can be upgraded to BD-Live 2.0 via a firmware update.

Blu-ray full HD playback
Digital imaging is made up of pixels. The more pixels in a picture, the clearer it is. With Blu-ray full HD (and 24 frames-per-second) playback, you get every single pixel out of a film possible. Experience vivid, crystal-clear visuals that are more natural, more realistic and simply stunning. You can drop in an old DVD and watch the picture get upconverted to near HD quality. Even your CDs will sound great, and you can also play MP3 and JPG files.

Blu-ray media offers a wide range of functions that foster the transition to HD including 1080p image quality, and lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The BDP2500 adds the new BD-Live function, which uses the Internet to further enhance your entertainment experience by allowing you to download additional content and share the information with other BD-Live users. And yes, your player is designed to stream Netflix movies. In the future, BD-Live will allow you to connect the BDP2500 to the Internet to download such data as images and subtitles, and to join in multi-player interactive games that are linked to bonus movie content contained in Blu-ray discs.

Samsung seems addicted to glossy black designs and the BD-P2500 feeds the company’s beast. From head-on, the player looks strikingly minimalist. The left side is the busiest, with the Samsung logo in the upper left-hand corner, a disc tray with an open/close button to the right, and the power button in the lower corner. The right side of the player is almost completely blank, except for a black directional pad that subtly blends in with the unit. When you turn the power on, the playback controls become apparent on the directional pad–play, stop, chapter forward/backward–and the LCD screen in the center becomes visible. We liked the stylish look, but be warned, the glossy finish is prone to collect fingerprints.

Providing a truly immersive HD home theater experience, Samsung’s BD-P2500 is capable of decoding the latest high-resolution digital multichannel audio soundtracks available. Out of the box, the player can output Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and dts as an uncompressed PCM signal, as a bitstream, or via the 7.1 analog outputs for cinematic sound that is comparable with the latest movie theaters. Additionally, dts-HD HR (High Resolution) decoding will become available with a firmware upgrade in the fall. The BD-P2500 will also pass these and dts-HD MA (Master Audio) as a bitstream output to a separate, external surround sound decoder.

The BD-P2500 also supports BD-Live for accessing supplemental disc content via the Web. This feature requires an ethernet connection as well as your own USB drive. Regrettably, this model’s USB port is inconveniently situated in the back, and it supports only BD-Live, not your own media files. Another point to grumble about: The BD-P2500 natively supports Dolby TrueHD (so your your amplifier doesn’t have to) but not DTS-HD Master Audio. That’s a surprising shortcoming for such a feature-laden, expensive player.

The BD-P2500 adds advanced upconversion capabilities via its built-in best-of-breed Silicon Optix HQV processor, as well as support for Netflix movies on demand (requires a Netflix account and network connection). The BD-P2500 is one of the first devices on the market to support Netlix HD – high definition movies on demand (and it works – I just tried it myself last night!). The BD-P2500 also includes a multi-channel analog output for compatibility with older non-HDMI surround sound receivers.
