The SAMSUNG HT-BD2 7.1 channel HD receiver/speaker system provides rich, powerful sound. With its slick, piano black design and soft blue LED accents, the HT-BD2 augments both the audio presence and visual aesthetics of home theatre to a new level.
A fully powered subwoofer, accentuated by four tower, a centre channel, and two satellite rear speakers, gives the HT-BD2 a rumbling 1,100 Watts of total output power to keep movie and audio fans satisfied all from a sleek and single component system that makes operating any function easy.
For a truly cinematic home theatre viewing experience, the HT-BD2′s Blu-ray player offers full compatibility with 24 movie frames per second playback. Since most movies are filmed at 24 frames per second, the HT-BD2 will be able to playback movies in their native format, significantly reducing unwanted artifacts.

Now that Blu-ray has officially triumphed over its HD-DVD rival, it’s only natural to begin seeing the HD disc format begin to become a bit more, well, standardised. Take the Samsung HT-BD2: it’s the first home-theatre-in-a-box (HITB) system in the world to feature a built-in Blu-ray player. It’s exactly the sort of gorgeously-styled system — curvy disc player, matching 7.1-channel kit — that’s dominated Samsung’s top-end home theatre line-up for the past years, except that this one plays Blu-ray in addition to DVDs and CDs.

The simplicity in design extends to the rear, albeit not in a good way. There’s nary a socket left spare by the all-in-one’s own cabling and, certainly, there’s no video input in sight.
Two optical audio sockets allow you to feed its amp modules from external sources, such as a Sky/Virgin Media box and a games console, but you can forget about simplifying your life (and your set-up) by using the HT-BD2 as a video-switching device.

With the Samsung HT-BD2ET’s Blu-ray Disc player at the heart of your new home theater, you experience audio and video without equal. Just as DVD eventually replaced VHS, Blu-ray Disc is now poised to replace DVD as the most advanced audio and video format available. By simply using a narrow blue-violet laser?—?as opposed to the wide red laser used by DVD?—?to read and record audio and video information, Blu-ray Disc is able to offer over five times the storage capacity of DVD. With this expanded storage capacity, Blu-ray Disc is able to deliver both full HD 1080p video and high definition 7.1-channel audio, all on the same disc. But wait, that’s not all.

With a Blu-ray player and full 7.1-channel sound system crammed into a single package, the HT-BD2 offers better value for money than its main competitor, the Panasonic SC-BT100. What’s more, its picture quality is superb and it looks gorgeous.
But our positive impressions are spoiled by the lacklustre movie sound quality and Profile 1.0 spec, which make the Profile 1.1 Panasonic seem more attractive, provided you can afford to fork out for the extra rears. But if you’re not fussed about picture-in-picture and simply want a good-value, hassle-free system with 7.1-channel sound from the box, then the Samsung is probably your best bet.

This all-in-one is essentially for those who want to upgrade their entire home entertainment system to HD in one fell swoop, or newbies to experience full-surround home cinema for the first time. It offers integrated 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD decoding, and it can route out 1080p24 video for, theoretically, the smoothest, sharpest picture. There’s even a LAN/Ethernet port for automatic web-based updates and patches. In many ways it is ‘my first Blu-ray home theatre’ in one gigantic box, which is fine. But that’s not to say that it’s without limitations…
