The LN-T3242H features a 32-inch wide screen (perfect size for a living room), a 7000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, an eight millisecond response time, three HDMI inputs and two side speakers. Compared to Samsung’s previous 32-inch LCD screen, this new model has everything someone looking for a new TV set (or in my case, not looking!) could wish for.

This is Samsung’s entry-level LCD series. We haven’t reviewed any of these sets, but we expect them to perform similarly to the LN-T3253H (see below), which we did review. The 26-, 32- and 40-inch models might exhibit slightly worse black-level performance than their 53H counterparts, however, since they have slightly worse contrast-ratio specs, but we don’t know for sure. The features on the 42H series are typical of what you’d expect from a name-brand LCD maker. All have the standard LCD native resolution of 1,366×768, all are clad in glossy black, and all have speakers mounted to the sides as opposed to the bottom.

Up conversion from 480i and 480p: We referred to our trusty Geffen Pictures release of Risky Business DVD to test lower end signals. The Samsung TV’s picture showed up with lots of grain and motion artifacts in 480p on this value oriented Samsung TV. There was a fuzzy non-quality to the up conversion. Red tones were not as vibrant as intended by the original content. Scenes didn’t pop as much as I would have like to have seen – it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The LCD had average clarity after up converting from a 480p source signal.

This LCD TV utilizes Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) which can provide 92% coverage of the video signals and presents excellent, vivid, natural colours. When you watch a movie, it is expected that the TV should be able to distinguish the scenes from the background especially when extremely dark scenes or bright scenes are displayed on the screen. This LCD has a contrast ratio of 7000:1 which helps to provide greater details even on such dark scenes thus enhancing the black levels and adding greater depth to the picture. Higher end LCD TVs like Samsung LN-T3242H LCD TV also successfully eliminate another shortcoming of usual LCD TVs – motion lag.
