In addition to the upgraded features of the 550 series Samsung LCD Televisions the LN46A650 offers a considerable increase in feature set. Some of the upgrades include Samsung’s patented Touch of Color which adds a translucent red hue to the bezel framing of the LCD. “With the application of TOC design to the 6 and 7 HDTVs, Samsung is truly changing the look of TVs and introduces a visual appeal that will make it the centerpiece of any living room.” said Jonas Tannenbaum, vide president of Flat Panel Marketing at Samsung Elecronics America.

The Samsung full HD 1080p “Super Clear Panel” is the key to the amazing images as you can have all the state-of-the-art electronics in the world but if you have a sub-standard LCD panel the image will do less than impress. They replaced the diffusion front found on traditional LCD HDTVs with a pitch black panel and a clear anti-glare shield. As a result blacks are blacker and colors much more vibrant and true-to-life. Source-faithful color reproduction is further enhanced by Samsung’s “Wide Color Enhancer” circuitry coupled with a “Cold Cathode Florescent” backlight.

Your action-packed sports and movies have never looked this real. Auto Motion Plus 120 Hz technology virtually eliminates any motion blur and creates smooth transitions between frames. What’s the secret? Auto Motion Plus calculates the image between frames and inserts it, creating a non-repetitive transition from one to the next. The result is a clearer picture you have to see to believe.

Samsung includes a remote that looks like most of its other ones with this 46” A650. Long, and with big buttons, it doesn’t really do anything wrong, with the exception of the wheel-button in the center, which replaces the directional buttons found on other Samsung remotes. Perhaps done in an attempt to differentiate the A650 series from its lesser brethren, the wheel rotates and can be used as a directional-pad, although that is not immediately obvious from first touch.

Samsung has also incorporated advanced HD connectivity and networking capabilities that expand the HDTV’s functionality. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through any one of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs (including one on the side), and the handy HDMICEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote. Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops.

The LN 46A650 is incredibly light and thin, and we were easily able to mount it up in the room in no time at all and hide/clean up all the cords with a cheap little tubey thing we bought to keep it from looking like a dangling cord holder… the name of the mounting kit we used is slipping my mind right now, but it’s quite cheap, incredibly fast to setup and does an awesome job, I’ll double check the name of the mount when I get around to submitting my calibration / tweaking settings.
