The Toshiba 42XV545U’s 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and HD 1080p resolution are great for watching high definition video content, but what about your DVDs? All DVD video has a 720 x 480 resolution, and most DVDs can be purchase in a standard or widescreen format. You of course, being a reputable videophile, purchased your entire DVD library in widescreen so as to enjoy the entire picture as the director intended. That, however, was when movie night was hosted on your old tube TV. Now that you’ve got the HD 42XV545U . . . what’s to guarantee that your DVDs will look just as good on your new flat panel? The answer: Toshiba’s TheaterView®. This technology allows the 42XV545U’s panel to display enhanced widescreen television and DVD video. Three different modes adjust and optimize DVD video based on different recording and formatting methods for a truly theater-like home DVD experience.

Under the hood, the Regza boasts a myriad of features, some more standard than others. The Regza is a full 1080p display and, with the help of Toshiba’s own SRT (Super Resolution Technology) Technology, it will scale all signals to 1080p. SRT is Toshiba’s proprietary upconversion technology that upconverts and enhances the signal to bring legacy sources and the images they produce to near HD-quality levels. The Regza also utilizes Toshiba’s ClearFrame 120Hz Anti-Blur Technology, which, like most 120Hz displays, does its best to eliminate motion blur on images by creating new frames from the digital data and inserting said frames in between the normally-produced frames.

The built-in speakers of the TV are commendable and these speakers improve the lucidity of sound. The SRT technology of the TV is excellent at rendering flawless services for non-HD inputs. You can easily plug-in various products as per your requirements and the most interesting thing is that the adjusting feature of Toshiba Regza is very simple and user-friendly. I tested the performance of the TV on various counts. Firstly, I connected Cable wires and I was completely stunned by the qualitative performance of the product. You can also use Quick Launch Buttons to switch between diverse inputs.

Most 1080p HDTVs look good when displaying slow-moving images, but things can get a little fuzzy when the action speeds up. That’s not a problem for the 42XV545U, thanks to Toshiba’s ClearFrame 120Hz technology. Instead of just doubling the frame rate, ClearFrame actually creates new video frames and inserts them between the original frames, for on-screen motion that’s smooth and natural. It also allows this set to deliver an exceptionally filmlike picture when displaying 1080p/24 video from Blu-ray Discâ„¢ players.
