A few days ago we lost a great tv icon. The death of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter after being killed by a stingray barb to his chest was a surprise to many of his fans.

Since then, the amount of tribute to him overflows from every parts of the world.

In his homeland, his father declined a state funeral and decided to have this “ordinary bloke” be buried secretly. Rumors abound that his body will be buried at the Australia Zoo wildlife park.

Grieving fans have been flocking to his family’s Australia Zoo with flowers and notes. One says “I thought you were immortal. How I wish that was true!”

In the internet circle, the overwhelming shock of his news clogs internet traffic and crashed a few internet servers that hosts sites that covers his death. Soon after that, hundreds of videos created by the public in his honour flooded the internet.

Ebay and online stores stocked special tribute t-shirts. Songs were composed. Poems written. Special tribute blogs were created at least by two known sites.

In Beewah, hundreds of surfers circle the waves of Australia’s Pacific Coast and casts wildflowers into the ocean in his honour.

Animal Planet, the fledging tv network he helped promoted had decided to put up a Crickey Fund in his name to save wildlife and pledge to help covers his children’s education costs.

All these tributes are the signs of massive love this wildlife advocate have in the hearts of fans allover the world. His death reminds us all that life is so uncertain and fragile.

I have never been touched by the death of a tv personality. But frankly Steve, I’ll miss you!
