The Hitachi CMP4221U is designed to offer exceptional performance in both PC graphic and video applications. The unit uses an advanced multiple circuit interface that optimizes performance across a wide range of Industrial and professional audio/video environments. The HDMI interface with separate stereo interface assures support of DVI and HDMI standards. The independent horizontal and vertical scalers create the best possible scaling capability for image size. The universal power supply ensures that the unit is compliant to all standard power sources in both the industrial and commercial environments. The advanced image color filter allows accurate reproduction of virtually all PC and video images.
Hitachi Plasma Technology
Plasma screens typically surround each pixel with a waffle-like cell structure that creates non-picture boundaries around the pixels. They reduce the illuminated surface area of the screen and produce a very noticeable grid pattern across the picture. The screen surface of a Hitachi Plasma TV ALiS display is comprised of continuous vertical channels of phosphor material. Pixels are defined electronically instead of physically. Each picture element is also reduced in size for a significantly higher pixel density. The result is a smooth, seamless canvas on which the picture is displayed.

This is a great Plasma & amazing value. I know you can get a 42″ LG for a similar price, but it hasn’t got the same 1080 resolution this has. HD on this screen is beautiful. The best I have seen at this size. Use a Calibration DVD as it does make a BIG difference. Use quality cables & always use the BEST connection between your hardware & if that means buying hub, then buy the hub! There’s no point in having a TV like this & not getting 100% performance out of it from your separates. A component, or HDMI hub is worth its value.

The 42HDT79’s native resolution of 1,024X1,080 displays every pixel of 1,080i high-definition content, producing an impressively sharp picture that most 42-inch plasma televisions can’t match. A four-step black enhancement process results in deep blacks and excellent detail in shadows, and Hitachi claims its PictureMaster HD III processor can theoretically produce 281 trillion separate colors. Regardless of the actual number, the 42HDT79’s picture is a sight to behold. Thanks to a selection of screen savers and other built-in functions, there’s little need to worry about plasma’s inherent burn-in problem.

The 42PD9700’s 1080-line claims actually come as a big surprise, as we didn’t think it was currently possible to squeeze so many pixels into a 42in plasma screen. And in fact, it turns out that Hitachi’s 1080 lines aren’t achieved by 1080 lines of actual, hard pixels, but by a technology called Alternate Lighting of Surfaces - or ALIS for short.

In general, high resolution panels bring some demerits, such as lower brightness and luminous efficiency. Hitachi’s FHP claims to resolve those demerits by what they refer to as a newly developed high density grid cell structure (0.21 x 0.63mm^2 per cell), electrode structure and discharge gas mixture. Moreover, by establishing stable process technology for fine cell forming, FHP achieved 2.07 megapixels with high brightness and contrast.
