Panasonic Viera TH46PZ81B 46” Plasma TV is another full HD model from the house of Panasonic coming under the Viera Series. This plasma television has already acquired a covetous status in the UK market for its enhanced networking capabilities, dynamic image resolution and the added advantage of built-in Freesat reception. Dynamic moving picture resolution is realised by astute frame creation that in its turn reproduces flicker-free images that reduces eye-stress due to long time TV viewing. This aspect, supported by a 50Hz video signal input effectuates quality picture resolution in swift-motion scenes as in sports and fast action movies.

Pictures are sharp with superb detail from both Freesat HD sources and some of my Blu-ray test discs such as Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Jumpers. The superb dynamic contrast ratio of a claimed 1,000,000:1 might be a bit optimistic but the good black level response means the picture looks superb particularly in darkened environs.

At long last, there’s now a way to enjoy high-definition broadcasts without paying Sky’s hefty HD subscription charge: it’s called freesat. To underline the importance of this new subs-free HD revolution, Panasonic has gone innovation-mad to present us with the very first TV with a built-in freesat receiver. Available for around £1,400, it’s also the first TV with a built-in HD broadcast receiver.

Sound is enhanced with its in-built V-Real Pro 3 surround sound technology (with bass extension), while the 24p Real Cinema settings offers enhanced judder-free playback, giving a smooth ‘film’ look. The 3 HDMI sockets allow you to hook-up your Blu-ray player, PVRs and games consoles with ease.

The TH46PZ81B is also capable of playing footage straight from your camcorder in high-definition mode and you can view a slideshow of your photos - just remove the SD memory card from your digital still camera, and slip it in the slot.
