With an incredible depth of crisp, clear, real-life colors created by a wide range of black gradations, VIERA flat panel HDTVs truly usher in a new VISUAL ERA. Improved resolution delivers theater-quality reproduction, and sporting events such as the Olympics, plus season premieres and other programming are displayed in exciting, vivid color—no matter how lively the movement in the action. Outstanding picture quality, connectivity and service. That’s VIERA.
Over 900 Lines with 480Hz Sub-field Drive
Even subtle movements are clear and easy to judge. Self-illuminating plasma displays feature high moving picture resolution, so there are no more frustrating afterimages in fast-action scenes. You enjoy smooth, clear motion in sports scenes, like Olympic competition and in the action scenes of movies.
Digital Optimizer
A digital noise detection circuit detects the areas and amounts of noise in each scene and then applies the optimal noise reduction to combat it. All types of images come through noise-free.
Motion Pattern Noise Reduction
This function detects motion patterns that tend to generate noise and makes adjustments to maximize image quality. Even scenes with a variety of motion images are crystal-clear.
High Contrast 1,000,000:1 [Native 15,000:1]
Every image is richly expressive, from bright scenes, like scorching desert landscapes, to dark cave scenes. Contrast is enhanced by the new Real Black Drive system (a pre-discharge control system) and a higher base luminance from improvements made to the panel production process. The high contrast creates deep, robust blacks and faithfully reproduces scenes with a delicate balance of light and shadow.
Deep Color
Deep Color (HDMI V.1.3) is an image enhancing technology supported by HDMI 1.3. Its outstanding color gradation exceeds the capability of current 8-bit/color systems.

Panasonic plasmas are also known for their rich, realistic color. The TH-50PX80U can reproduce over 4,000 shades of gradation each for red, green, and blue. That yields a nearly infinite color palette of over 68 billion shades, to virtually eliminate the common picture distortion known as “false contouring.” It causes the transitions between different shades of the same color to appear too sharp and abrupt, giving scenes an artificially layered look. Images on this TV look effortlessly smooth, with beautifully natural skin tones.
