The PRO-141FD has a healthy connection panel that includes four HDMI, one component video, one DVI, and one PC input, as well as RS-232 and IR ports for integration into an advanced control system. An Ethernet port allows for IP setup, remote monitoring, and diagnostics. This model does not offer the Home Media Gallery function, which allows you to stream media from a PC or DLNA-compliant server, found on other Elite KURO TVs. The HDMI inputs accept both 1080p/60 and 1080p/24, and picture-in-picture functionality is available.

Simultaneous with the release of the basic Kuro panels, Pioneer will ship its two Elite models, again in both 50- and 60-inch versions. The main differences between non-Elite and Elite panels have to do with picture calibration options–according to the company, all of the lines share the same black-level performance. On these Elite models, however, professional calibrators and other knowledgeable adjusters can access color temperature and other controls from the user menu, making it easier to dial in the best picture. Whether that’s worth an extra $1,000 or $1,500 depends on your point of view.

Pioneer’s deep encased cell structure means that each individual pixel in the PRO141FD’s display is encased in its own cell, with walls on all sides so that light doesn’t bleed into neighboring cells. This energy-efficient design allows each pixel to deliver a more concentrated beam of light, for truer colors and brighter images. The clear front surface of the PRO141FD’s display is actually a precisely manufactured optical-grade, non-glass color filter bonded directly to the plasma panel. This filter increases the spectrum of light emitted by the plasma, for a fuller range of colors and exceptional color accuracy compared to front filters made of glass. It’s also much lighter than a glass filter and increases contrast by limiting ambient light reflections in bright viewing environments.
