The VP322 reviewed here is a 32-inch design with a maximum resolution of 1080i and retailing for $649.99 through Vizio directly or Wal-Mart. The VP322 is an attractive design with a smooth gloss piano bezel and amber illuminated Vizio logo on its face. All manual controls are located on the side of the display itself with the inputs and outputs recessed in a large, but organized panel ’round back. The VP322 features three HDMI inputs as well as a PC monitor in, one component video in, one composite video in, one RF antenna in and as well as a single S-Video input.

LCD sets typically win out in overall brightness making them a good choice for very bright areas, but plasma televisions tend to have better black level reproduction, better moving image support and better picture uniformity making them a better choice for watching movies and sports. The battle for the bedroom (television, that is) just got a whole lot more interesting.

The VP322 sports a glossy black finish on most of the panel’s frame, augmented by a flat black finish on the lower speaker grilles and on the sides and top of the outside bezel. As with its 42-inch plasma sibling, the VP422, the VP322 has a bright Vizio logo located just below the center of the screen that glows orange when in standby, and changes to white when powered up. The overall look is nothing to write home about, but attractive enough for an entry-level HDTV.
