Features

DLP projection: Because DLP is up to 1000x faster than other display technologies, it produces quick, clear motion making it the best choice for sports. Also, it is immune to image retention (burn-in) because it is based on mirrors.

Full HD 1080p resolution: See all of your programming in the highest resolution currently possible. Many Microdisplay, LCD and Plasma sets are only able to display 1280 x 720 pixels. When showing 1080i content (1920 x 1080), these sets will lower the resolution. Not with a 1080p set. This never throws any resolution away.

New developments in video displays are cropping up almost faster than we can keep up with them. Many have been exclusive to flat panel LCD and plasma sets. The once-dominant rear projection models are now relegated to the low end of most manufacturers’ lines. Yes, there are RPTVs with dynamic irises, LED backlighting, and creative color adjustments, but these refinements are usually reserved for the few high-end models still on the market.

Panasonic, however, is now the first company to market with a new type of projection lamp for its RPTV sets, called LIFI. This lamp is now used in a new six-model line of popularly priced rear projection LCD sets, three of them 1920×1080, the others 1280×720. The smallest of the 1920×1080 models is our subject here, the PT-50LCZ70 at just $1,699.

SXRD Panels
SXRD technology is the latest display technology developed by the legendary television engineers at Sony to meet and exceed the demands of a High Definition image at its full 1080 line resolution. Digitally transmitted High Definition signals can contain over 2 million individual detail points that need to be displayed accurately and rapidly. SXRD displays those 2 million detail points per SXRD panel accurately since the 3 SXRD panels actually contain enough pixels to fully display a 1080 line picture without interlacing it. SXRD has the speed to create a smooth, film like image. The SXRD panels have a blistering 2.5ms response time (total rise and fall time), which exceeds the demands of even the most rapidly moving High Definition images.
