Mitsubishi’s exclusive 6-Color Light Engine provides brighter colors, a wider range of colors, whiter whites, and eliminates ring-around-the-collar! But really folks, this proprietary light engine works by generating yellow, cyan, and magenta directly, rather than the traditional method of mixing combinations of red, green, and blue to create them, resulting in picture quality that adds realism to yellow sunlight, blue skies, and crimson sunsets. This more efficient process gives you a brighter overall picture as well as brighter individual colors. PerfectColor, another exclusive Mitsubishi technology, allows you to adjust the intensity of six separate colors independently of each other and separately for every input. PerfectColor is a full-color matrix, much more powerful than a conventional color intensity control with red versus green color balance.

Audio power is rated 10-watts per channel from twin bottom-mounted speakers without any further audio enhancements. The set does, however, include simulated stereo and artificial surround sound settings. To receive the complete surround sound effect, though, it is highly suggested to include a separate AV Receiver with high-quality speakers. For this evaluation, I used a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi AV Receiver with six 700 Series B&W loudspeakers. Video sources included the Oppo Digital DV-981HD Universal DVD player, Toshiba HD-XA1 HD DVD player, and the Sony PlayStation 3 that features an integrated Blu-ray Disc player. All HDMI switching was accomplished via the Pioneer Elite receiver and utilized one HDMI input on the back of the Mitsubishi TV, which allowed for the full enjoyment of HD DVD, Blu-ray, and PS3 HD games.

Mitsubishi’s exclusive 4D Video Noise Reduction uses advanced algorithms to better identify video noise from fine detail and correct the signal rather than distort it. Video noise is caused by distortions in the video signal and makes the picture to look grainy or snowy. As signal resolutions improve with the introduction of DVD, digital cable/ satellite and HDTV, the loss of sharpness produced by most noise reduction circuits becomes more noticeable. Mitsubishi’s advanced 4D Video Noise Reduction corrects the image in four dimensions: horizontally, vertically, within each frame and across multiple frames to provide an image that is crystal clear and extraordinarily detailed.
